Best Running Gear This Summer

You set out for your daily run, securing your laces and getting that final stretch in. Your feet begin rise and fall, your chest mirroring this movement with each breath.

Sometimes all you need to run is the desire to run. Some runners don’t even get to sprinting in shoes. Others lace up their old favorite pair for each new run.

While technically the only gear you need to run is yourself, there is tons of running gear on the market aimed to hydrate, protect you from injury, enhance, and make your runs more enjoyable.

For those of you who don’t know, I began seriously running about a year ago, so I can relate to many newbie runners. However, I run an average of 25 miles per week, have completed a half marathon, and am training for two more. While I am not a pro-runner, I run often and love trying new products to see what works for me. I feel like I am at the perfect stage in my running journey to see which gear hurt or helps my runs.

Therefore, here at NY Life Supply, I would like to supply you with the best running gear I have been using this summer.

When it comes to running swag, I can’t go for a run without a way to track my run. While I patiently save up for a Garmin, my Nike Fuelband is my go-to fitness tracker. I log into my Nike Running app available through the play store on Androids and set off for my run. Add Me!

Water Bottle Holder

Shorter runs I can do sans H2O, but hot weather runs and anything over 4 miles, I MUST bring along water. While I alternate between my Bobble, awesome running quote bottles, and Poland Spring bottles, I find clenching onto the bottle is an annoyance. I like to feel free when running, so buying a BottleBand was one of the greatest running swag I have bought. The band fit around any bottle size and I purchased a turquoise one that reads, “Eat.Sleep.Run.” Read my full review here!

GU Salted Watermelon

Gels are one of my favorite ways to fuel up during long runs. While I usually use Clif energy gel shots, My Stride Box came with a GU salted watermelon that was to die for. I tried it during a hot and sweaty 7-mile run, so the saltiness tasted like heaven and the melon was just sweet enough.

NUUN tablets

When I am not using gels, but need that extra hydration, I use Nuun electrolyte tablets. I have only begun to add these to my water, but since the first time I tried them, I was hooked. Makes plain water taste refreshingly flavorful!

Suacony Ride 6

I was always a Nike girl, but after I began running longer distances, Nike sneakers just weren’t doing it for me anymore. I checked out Jack Rabbit Sports to filmed running on the treadmill to find my perfect shoe. My Suacony’s are the pair that helped me make it through my first half. They are such supportive, durable, and comfortable running sneakers. These are probably my favorite running gear essential. However, it is time to retire this loyal runners. They have seen better days, so I ordered a new pair (stay tuned for a review!), but will keep them in rotation for shorter runs. RIP Rides!

While I have dabbled in running without music, I am the type of runner that needs tunes—especially for those longer runs! My first year running, I went through many different earbud headphones, but never found a kind that would stay in my ear. That is until I purchased UrbanEars from Urban Outfitters. They are close to Beats, without the hefty price tag, making these an affordable running gear must have. I purchased mine from Amazon, saving me a little bit of money. I have been dying for the pumpkin or neon lime ones all summer and might just have to get a second pair!

What is your list for must-have running gear this summer?

  1. LOVE my Saucony Kinvaras–I too am a Saucony convert from Nike. Will look forward to your review on the Ride 6.

I’ve heard some amazing things about that salted watermelon! Can’t wait to try 🙂

  2. I love my Saucony’s I have two pairs, the Ride 6 and the Grid Excursion TR8’s (I do a lot of off road running). I’m getting close to retiring my shoes too though- after my races this fall, I’ll need a new pair. Sad to say goodbye to an old pair of shoes! And I’m addicted to GU and Nunn- Salted Caramel and Peanut Butter are my favorite GU flavors.

    1. I just ran in a new pair of Mizuno today, and once I broke them in they felt light and I felt fast, but they are nothing like a good pair of Saucony’s. I might just have to get a new pair—again =). Peanity Butter GU?! yumm!!
