Banning Thong Bathing Suits: Long-Sleeve Suits Next Summer Trend?

A faith-based water park is laying down the laws of land when it comes down to showing off too much skin. Dirty thoughts won’t be coming to mind when it comes to looking at derrieres in revealing bathing suits in an attempt to keep a clean family-friendly environment.

Splash Kingdom Waterparks, who runs two parks in Texas, plans on opening another facility in Brazoria (south of Houston) forbids thong and other “excessively revealing” bathing suits at the water park and will allow employees to ask customers to cover up.

“We’re a very family friendly business,” Johnny Blevins, the Splash Kingdom Family Waterparks president and CEO, told the Houston Chronicle. “Our goal is to glorify God while providing a fun, safe recreational area for families.”
The water parks also deny guests from wear denim.

While thong swimwear is not appropriate in certain places, on the opposite side of the coin, swimwear lines are now features a more conservative long-sleeve suit.

The Daily Mail reported that long-sleeve swimsuits with rash guards have been on the rise, with companies like Urban Outfitters, Neiman Marcus, and ASOS the big sellers. These long-sleeved bathing suits protect the skin from the sun, ideal for light-skinned women who want to enjoy the beach without feeling the burn. The suits come in one-piece or two-piece, crop top options for those who do want to show off a little skin.

With the last summer season trend of the high-waisted look, many swimsuits are featuring tummy covering bottoms, the polar opposite from low-rise string bikinis that are typically features on Victoria’s Secret.

What do you think about this new swimwear trend? It is classy and sophisticated, or do you think this trend will die out with our sex-crazed culture that loves to show off their bodies at the beach? What are your thoughts about thong bathing suits?

  1. I will say I own that bathing suit from victoria secret, for tan line purposes!!! lol..But I wouldn’t parade around in a waterpark in it. I think it’s all about time and place! P.S just say you are running the half marathon in Queens. I may sign up for it as well, it would be my first marathon!

    1. Yea, I do have a sexy lil vicky bikini that i love to tan it, but yes I think it is all about the place. I personally wouldn’t wear the long-sleeve ones, but I like how the market is expanded to better suit all women’s needs. More choices!! I hope that you do sign up for the Queen’s half! Where do you live? I would love to meet up that day and we can help push each other through, but if you are in NY, let’s link up for some training runs! My first half really wasn’t bad at all. I made sure I was prepared and yea, at times it was tough, but there was never one moment when I thought about stopping or giving up. You can do it!

      1. I’m in Flushing. I have never run a day in my life. But I’m have been dancing since I’m 3. The closest I get to running is the elliptical lol! Where did you do your first half marathon and how long in advance did you train for it? Which part of NY are you from? So excited!

      2. I lived in Flushing last year! lol on 58th road of..we could’ve still been neighbors! I started training 10 weeks before and was nervous that it wasn’t enough time, but I was fine. I am going to train for 12 weeks this time and start at the end of the month. Before that I had only done a few 5Ks and would only run 2-4 miles a few times a week. Training is short distances during the week and Saturday is usually the longer distance days, but you get there gradually. We could always meet up on Saturday and run together! I live in Staten Island now, but work in Manhattan, so I am flexible in traveling if you ever wanted a running buddy =) I am excited for you too!

  2. OMG! That is HYSTERICAL!!! I am in Kissena Park ALLLL the time!!!Staten Island to Manhattan! That’s quite the trip!!! I would love to meet up for coffee first! I’m not up to running just yet! But i’ll be prepping soon enough!

  3. I actually do like those slong sleeve swimming suits for surfing because I always get awful bruises and burns in my skin. Other than that, I stick to the regular, lower waist ones for tanning. I hate tan lines so these help a lot to make them minimal and hard to see with any clothing (unless you choose something transparent lol). Thank you for the post, I enjoyed it
