Are kids getting stir crazy in the house? If it is not nice enough to go outside and get fresh air, then try this fun exercise routine designed to be done at home to get your kids moving.

Now more than ever exercise plays a vital role in health. Exercise is important to keep the body strong and moving, especially when kids are stuck indoors with many just wanting to sit on the couch and watch TV or play video games.

Not only is exercise a stress reliever, but it also helps strengthen the immune systems, with studies suggesting it might help reduce the chance of getting a cold, flu or other illnesses.

And even toddlers and younger children need to exercise. According to the Physical Activity Guidelines for Americans released by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, preschool-aged kids ages 3 to 5 should be physically active throughout the day. Exercise for them improves bone health and weight status for these kids.

The guidelines also say exercise improves cognitive function for kids ages 6 to 13.

Having an at-home exercise routine for kids is great for getting a PE session while fighting off boredom.

The best part of this workout created by That Runner Mom is that it is fun! It shows kids that moving their body is lots of fun. These exercises have them using their imagination and acting out different characters like pretending to be a superhero.

First Stretch

It’s important to get the body warmed up and ready to work out. Have your toddler or young child stretch and get their heart rate up to have the blood pumping and muscles ready.

Try a quick round of head, shoulders, knees, and toes to stretch. Then have them do a few jumping jacks and butt kickers.

The Workout

The at-home exercise routine for kids is detailed below. All the moves are explained in further detail. Make sure to instruct the kids throughout the exercise routine and lead by example! Make exercise a priority.

Exercise Benefits

This exercise routine for kids at home is designed to be a full-body workout. For example, Superhero Punches work both the core and the arms. Skaters are great for balance, working the lower body and the core. Bear Crawls are also a great core-strengthening move to do. Running in place gets the heart rate up as well as Star Jumps.

  1. Yes, love these! As a former preschool teacher and now kids yoga teacher, getting them moving and exercising is so important. It can help in some many ways, not just physical!

  2. Oh my goodness, I love this so much! Thankfully, we live in AZ so it’s GORGEOUS right now and we have been out on the trampoline as much as stinkin possible. We need to do this little exercise routine out in the back yard! The infographics are so cute!
