The Best Mother’s Day Races In New Jersey

Racing and having babies have one thing in common: once you do it, you know you can do anything. But completing races as a mom completely changes post-baby.

As a mom, not only are you working on your health and fitness for yourself, but you are to be the best version of yourself for your child. And while crossing that finish line is proof to yourself that you can crush any goal or reach any dream you set our for yourself, it is also is an example that your child can do too.

So what better way for a runner mom to celebrate Mother’s Day, a day dedicated for all that she does by doing so with her favorite activity, running?

Running a race on Mother’s Day is a good way for mama bear to have some time for self-reflection, do something she loves for herself, and have a whole event in her honor joined by other moms. Some of these races might also be stroller-friendly, so mom and baby duo can complete the course together for a memorial event.

Luckily, NJ is a big running state with lots of different mama-themed races to check out.

Here’s the best Mother’s Day races to sign up for in New Jersey.


NJ Miles With Moms 5k Run/Walk and Fun Run
When: Sunday, May 6, 2018
Where: Cranford, NJ

This is a great race to sign up for those who want to do a Mother’s Day run, but already have solid plans or previous commitments that day that will prevent them for doing so. Still celebrating moms and families, this race takes place the weekend before Mother’s Day at Nomahegan Park. Strollers and kids are welcomed, with proceeds benefiting the Mothers’ Center of Central NJ. There is kids’ activities afterward with a DJ and refreshments.


Mother’s Day 5K
When: Saturday, May 12, 2018
Where: Manasquan, NJ


This race is all about the community, with proceeds going to the Manasquan Elementary School. It includes a 1 mile fun run at 10 a.m., followed by the 5k race at 11 a.m. It costs only $25 as part of early bird registration.


Mother’s Day 5K Run/Walk

When: Sunday, May 13, 2018
Where: Berkeley Heights, NJ


Hosted by the Summit Area YMCA, this 5k celebrates mothers, but more importantly serves as a way to support the LIVESTRONG program at the Y that helps cancer survivors. The race takes place at Memorial Field, and those who sign up by April 21 will get a t-shirt.


Run The Hook

When: When: Sunday, May 13, 2018
Where: Sandy Hook, NJ


Run along the beach at one of Jersey Shore’s most scenic locations with this race. Participants can opt to fun the 5k or 10k, and both events are stroller-friendly so make sure to bring baby along for the ride. This event supports the charity Clean Ocean Action that helps to improve the quality of the water. Runners walk away with a finisher’s gift, t-shirt and access to the after party.


Don’t forget that running a virtual 5k, 10k or half marathon is an option for those who can’t make any of these events (or those who don’t live in NJ). There are lots of SuperMom-themed events for the holiday, and come with great mom medals.
