It was all sparkles and Instagram fun when it came to picking up Starbucks’ limited-time Unicorn Frappuccino during the end of last month, but just because it looked magically delicious (despite many criticizing it for how bad it really tasted) didn’t mean that it magically healthy.
While I am a firm believer in all things in moderation and treat yo’ self every once in a while, it might’ve been a wise decision to waste your “cheat” treat on a beverage that was packed with sugar (and 410 calories).
A grande Unicorn Frappuccino made with whole milk and topped with whipped cream had 59 grams of sugar. And while most Starbucks’ Frapps are loaded with just as much and more sugar, to put this in perspective, it’s pretty much the same amount of sugars in a 20 oz. bottle of Coke.
Depending whether you decide to skip the drink or do it for the ‘gram, the Unicorn Frapp has disappeared from the menu. But another unicorn drink has been added to Starbucks secret menu, and nope this isn’t just make believe.
Behold the Unicorn Lemonade.
It’s a much more refreshing and lighter option of the Unicorn Frapp that still looks pretty enough to share on social media. The Unicorn Lemonade was first whipped up by baristas who shared their concoction on Reddit, although they later took down the picture to avoid a mass hysteria of customers ordering the new drink.
So what’s really in the Starbucks Unicorn Lemonade to make it a drink of your dreams?
It’s pretty basic: layered raspberry lemonade. The baristas used leftover blue powder from the Unicorn Frapp first, pour in lemonade, then add passion tea on top. The trick to layers is putting extra ice in the cup.
Since this is a “secret menu” item, the exact calories aren’t know. However, a grande Iced Passion Tango Tea Lemonade (which has the lemonade and passion tea) has 120 calories and 32 g of sugar.
Not going to lie, just thinking about the Unicorn Lemonade had my mouth watering after a sweaty run on a warm afternoon.
