Man Wakes Up From Coma Speaking French And Believes He Is Mathew McConaughey

A former semi-pro soccer player woke up from a coma believing he was actor Matthew McConaughey and was able to speak fluent French.

Alright, alright, alright. This British man was really disappointed to find out he wasn’t Matthew McConaughey, but at least he can speak perfect French.

Rory Curtis, a former semi-professional soccer player, suffered from a brain injury that left him in a coma for six days when he was hit by five cars after crashing into a truck in an accident that took place in August of 2012. It took firefighters forty minutes to pull him away from the car wreck.

He suffered from serious brain hemorrhage that cause blood to leak in his brain, as well as broken pelvis and elbow. After waking up from a coma, the 25-year-old was able to speak fluent French, even though he only learned the basics in school.

“I can’t explain how it happened. It’s incredible really…I was just casually chatting away about how I was feeling in this perfect French accent,” Curtis says. “I wasn’t really that good at it at school, so I don’t how my brain has managed to do what is has.”

Not only could he now speak French to his nurses, but Curtis actually believes he was Oscar award-winning actor Matthew McConaughey. “I was convinced I was him and that I had his good looks as well—I know it was hopeful thinking really,” he says. “But at times I was in hospital thinking I can’t wait to get out of here and back to filming movies.”

It wasn’t until Curtis went to look at himself in the mirror that he realized he wasn’t the actor with the famous good looks and Southern drawl. “When I went to the toilet I went to look in the mirror and I was shocked because I didn’t look like him, I didn’t know what I was looking at,” he says. “‘Then slowly over time it eventually clicked and I thought ‘he is an actor, what am I on about?

There were also times Curtis believes he was still a boy and could not grasp the fact he had an head injury, but rather just believed he was being treated for a broken pelvis and elbow.

After experimental drugs, Curtis was able to  recover from his injury, and left the hospital in November of 2012. He no longer believes he is McConaughey but can still speak French.
