Red Dresses Make Other Women Jealous

While every woman can rock a little black dress with classic, sophistication, when we are feel flirty we might just put on that red dress that makes us feel like a sex goddess supermodel. As you walk into a room, you may notice other woman giving you a look as they try to redirect their man’s attention. This instant jealously is not just linked to insecurity, but new studies suggest that women think ladies wearing red are more interested in sex and are less faithful.

“The color of a woman’s shirt [affects] how men and women think about her,” said Adam Pazda, a social psychologist at the University of Rochester and one of the authors of the study. “Women don’t want other women in red near their boyfriends.”

Published Personality and Social Psychology Bulletin, researchers from the University of Rochester, Trnava University, and the Slovak Academy of Sciences collaborated on the study, which included three experiments, to find out what the color conveys to women.

In the first experiment, participants were shown an image of a woman wearing red and a woman wearing white. They were then asked about the women’s sexual receptivity. Researchers found that they rated the woman in red as being more sexually receptive. They results showed that the participant’s relationship status did not have a significant effect on their answers. 69% of the participants reported they were in a committed relationship.

The second experiment tested the participants is they would guard their partner from a woman in women, as well as if they would speak poorly of the woman while making themselves seem superior. Answers to this experiments included, “I would guess this woman cheats on men” and “I would guess that this woman has no money.”

The last experiment compared women in red to women in green instead of white because white can be related to purity. They were asked, “How likely would you be to introduce this person to your boyfriend?” and “How likely would you let your boyfriend spend time alone with this person?” The results found the woman in red was still more sexually receptive than both the white and green.

Red represents love and lust, and other associated amorous feelings, and men historically went to red-light districts for sex. However, there is not biological reason why we perceive the color has being sexy. There is little evidence to prove that women wear red when they are looking for sex.

Do you commonly wear red? Have you caught yourself seeing red when your partner checks out the woman in red? Ironically, I wore a red shirt today! LOL
