Early Morning Start

Last night I posted about my interval speed run and how good I felt after. So after I hit that publish button, I went ahead and enrolled in the Map My Run MVP (If you use Map My run, let’s connect email: lkeating19@gmail.com). It appears I was excited to use the interval feature on the update because as soon as my alarm went off at 5 a.m., I jumped out of bed. I wanted to make sure that I got some good stretching in, so I took my time and had a breakfast bar to fuel the run.

At set out at 5:41 a.m. and set the intervals to include a 5-minute warm up, followed by 3 minutes of moderate intensity, then 3 minutes of high intensity that repeated 3 times, and then a 5 minute cool down. The sky was grey and a light sprinkle fell down on the already slick pavement. The world around me was still asleep, silence and the occasional sounds of tires passing the only whispers heard. The occasional early morning bird walked their dog, still whipping the slumber from their half opened eyes. I am also happy to see a fellow runner or walker getting an early start like myself.

Each time I was told to increase to a higher intensity, I gave it my all. By the third and final round, my muscles felt the burn, but I made sure to give it all I had. I liked having the voice in my headphones telling me when to slow down and speed up. You can even customize the intervals, which I can look forward to playing around with.

Mile 1 I was at an 11:48 pace min/mi, and that includes the 5 minutes warm up. Mile 2 I was at a 10:43 pace min/mi, and then walked for about 6 minutes as my cool down. The only thing I didn’t like too much was I wasn’t told that the workout was finished. I allowed my heart rate to slow before seeing that I had completed the cool down. Average pace of the run was 11:34 min/mi.

I started my morning on a positive foot, and find myself in a great mood today. Two more days until the weekend! I am very pleased to see more 10 mins (+ secs) consistently. I know that if I keep at my under 10 min/mi goal is achievable!
